Folk Museum of Koufonisia
The Folk Museum was created in 2011 at the initiative of the then Head of the new municipality of Koufonisia, Antonis Koveos, and opened officially on June 30, 2011. Exhibits provided by the inhabitants tell their story and memories; it is next to the church of St George, by the old water fountain.
Nikitas Simos Folklore & Archaeological Collection
The Nikitas Simos Folklore & Archaeological Collection is exhibited in the garden of Villa Ostria in Agios Georgios. The municipal page says it is small but informative about the area’s past, and that a stone building of 1852 — Koufonissi’s first primary school, now the café-bar “School” — stands with it; entry is free.
Church of Saint George
The church of Saint George was completed in 1870.
The Holy Virgin’s Church (Panagia)
The chapel of Panagia on Kato Koufonissi was built in 1561, originally barely above ground so it stayed out of sight of Ottoman officials and pirates. The municipal page says the surroundings were enlarged in 1970, a patio, toilets and bell stand were added in 1990, and a feast is held at the port after mass on 15 August.
