The Kouros of Apollonas is a colossal unfinished marble statue from the 7th century BC, lying in an ancient quarry near the village of Apollonas on the northern tip of Naxos. At approximately 10.7 metres long, it is the largest of the unfinished kouroi on the island. The statue was likely intended to represent Dionysus and was abandoned in the quarry, possibly due to cracks in the marble during carving. It remains one of the most impressive examples of archaic Greek sculpture visible in its original setting.
